Be.SHARE is an emblematic European project deploying a low-carbon, low-temperature heating and cooling network in Brussels’ North district, powered by local renewable sources such as urban geothermal energy and wastewater heat recovery. By 2028, this network will supply carbon-neutral thermal energy to offices, 201 social housing units and other residential buildings, facilitating the direct exchange of heat and cold between users with complementary needs.
As developer and operator of the thermal network, Karno is contributing its expertise to the design and implementation of this innovative infrastructure. Alongside Bruxelles Environnement, Sibelga, Vivaqua, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and the non-profit organization Convivence, Karno is helping to make Be.SHARE a benchmark demonstrator for the decarbonization of dense neighborhoods: a scalable, carbon-neutral system designed for an energy transition that is both efficient and socially just.
